Frequently Asked Questions

Actually, a lot. You can take the test. You can browse profiles — but to protect the privacy of our members you must become a member to see their MYdidi profile pages with their contact info.

You can also read our blog, ask questions on the advice column and just come by and visit.

If you’re here you probably already know how it’s different. It feels different, doesn’t it?
It’s not a prefab, prebuilt commercial-looking site. It looks like what it is. An idea from me, didi, about the kind of site I would have wanted to use. It’s modern but it also respects traditions; it humanizes you instead of demoralizing you. It will attract the people who want to match in a sophisticated way that respects who they are.
Also, we actually match-make. You take a test. We give you seven matches a day (called the Lucky 7) to review. I'm positive you’ll love the user-friendly, warm place I’ve created.

We care about your privacy too. Here are some things we do to protect your privacy:
1. We won't show your last name or hometown to anyone.
2. We won't share your email address with anyone.
3. We have a site-safe email system so people can write you without knowing your email address or even your last name.
4. We have an SSL certificate to prevent unauthorized parties from eavesdropping.
5. Only members (that's people who have paid through PayPal) can see your MYdidi page.
6. Registered users (with verified email addresses) can see only your basic profile photos (through the Browse Profiles section).
7. We don't allow search engines to troll our site for your personal profiles, though they can go to the public areas of the site.
8. If you can think of anything else we can do to make our site more secure--let us know!

Gee, you're cynical aren't you? I don't even want to know what type of credit card you have. I'm paying pay pal to take care of all payment issues. The reason: I trust them to keep your information safe (they don't even show it to me) and I think they'll do a good job to stop scam artist from using stolen credit cards to join our lovely family.

No, it's actually just a few smart, hard working thoughtful people trying to make a good site together. Do me a favor and click on About on the menu bar and go to About Us and you'll even know our names!

I am.

Did you know that didi is a Hindi word for big sister?
I am the developer of NYdidi. There is a glamorized drawing of me on every page. I live in New York. I'm a wife and mother of two and
I'm also the eldest cousin of thirty-two. I was the first child on both sides of the family and didi is a word that I consider my own.
I got the idea for NYdidi when I was speaking to my cousins who were living away from home, working for multi-nationals, and ready to marry but not sure where to look.
Their parents wanted to help but they weren't sure either.
The classified ads I saw were, honestly, a bit demeaning. We are so much more than our salaries, heights and complexions.
I saw the discomfort that the new transient life was bringing.
So with NYdidi I am treating you all like my younger cousins, who I want to guide in this process. I want to be your didi.

I understand. It’s what I’d want too. Which is why we don’t allow search engines to comb our site for content from our profile pages.
You have to register to browse profiles and then be a member to look at the more detailed MYdidi page.

Well, we think you are referring to the Browser question. The site should look gorgeous, well laid out and perfect. If it doesn't there is a problem. Here are some things to consider:

  • Ensure that you're viewing the site with the latest browser version (e.g. Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7, Safari 3, Opera 9). You can find out which browser version you're using and/or check for the updates by going to your browser's Help menu.
  • In Internet Explorer, ensure that you're viewing the site with the default font set to Medium or 16 px.

Please consider upgrading your browser to the latest version by going to one of the links above.

For best results: the photo should be in a JPG, GIF, or PNG format with a 3:4 aspect ratio.

The maximum acceptable size is 200 kB, but even if you upload a photo 450 by 600px, it will be automatically resized down to 200x267 without any distortions.

To resize and/or crop your photos, you can use any available graphics software, or use a free online tool Picnik - http://www.picnik.com/
Follow the tutorials on Picnik and after adjusting and resizing your photo down to 200x267 px, upload it to NYdidi.com.

After selecting your picture from your hard drive, don't forget to click the Save button at the bottom of the page in order to commit the changes and save the new picture.
