Affectionate words and their pronunciations..."didi", can I pronounce it like a yankee? didi

Well, this is interesting. I received a heated email from an anonymous viewer who objects to my pronunciation of "didi".
He/She says it sounds too Americanized. Interesting issue.
I say the word "didi" exactly the way that my cousins pronounce it when they speak to me. The viewer wants me to change my pronunciation of the word "didi" to sound more like a native Hindi speaker. Well, I am a native Hindi speaker (but that's another issue).

Is there room in this world to use our affectionate words for one other with what ever accents we have adopted? Or should we pronounce our Hindi words as they would be in India?

I wonder. Is the viewer sad because the word "didi" means something dear to him. And now it is being used by a person who does not sound like his "didi"? Is the root of the objection primarily a longing for the lost?

Is didi a word that is most profound as a nostalgic memory or is it a living breathing word that resonates no matter what the accent?
